Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was sentenced of planning a military coup in September and handed more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he was staying under home detention pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after fresh information were revealed.

This involved trying to remove his ankle monitor and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the arrest, the magistrate said information from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's "intention to break the electronic ankle bracelet to guarantee victory in his getaway".

His offspring, Flávio, who works as a senator, called for a gathering of his supporters near the former president's residence to take place on the weekend.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on last Friday: "Are you going to fight for your country, or see it all from your mobile device there on your settee? I urge you to battle with us."
